Emily, this is great and interesting work. Your words teeter, but with glimpses of meaning.

Wonderful device. I use the same kinds of processes myself. I suppose, in some obvious way, this is akin to Burroughs' cut-up techniques, in my case. But, like you, I see the results as reconfigured, as it is reconfigured meaning and not abstraction I am after in using these devices.

Such things serve you well, Emily.

these are the subtle differences i like.
burroughs? yes. certainly his idea.
but this is the machine that spits out the words rearranged in a random format. you can almost hear a robotic voice speaking the changed lines.

I'M WAITNG FOR THE CRACKS TO SHOW

NOT RECONFIGURED MEANING AS IF YOU TOOK PIECES AND MADE A NEW FORM FROM THEM (THAT IS,PULLING ONE MEANING APART AND FORMING ANOTHER), IN A COHESIVE WAY, BUT TAKING FRAGMENTS AS SUCH AND LETTING THE CRACKS SHOW UP, SO THAT THE THING FREE-ASSOCIATES AND LETS THE IMAGINATION RUN AROUND THEM, OUTWARDS

OPEN BROKEN NARRATIVES

BUT THERE'S NOT MUCH METHOD TO THE SILLYNESS - MORE A "JUST PLAY, FOOL AROUND" APPROACH

I DON'T THINK IT'S RANDOM - PATTERNS APPEAR

Emily, by all means include me in, and thanks for the invite. I will do what I can when I can - if that is ok with all concerned.

I agree, language forces meaning despite the mashing. Or rather, should I say the brain does. That can lead to a certain complacency, of course; and that feeds the worse excesses of the nonsense end of things. But, for me, that edge is where the interest lies - call it surrealism. From that surreality, I think, flows the good stuff - inncluding my own love of Dada, Fluxus, Beuys, Cage, etc., but also black comedy, political satire of asideways surreal bent, and BDSM, fetishism, and alt-sex per se. The Surrealists knew this. Their output was as erotic as it was strange.

Added direct link to your lujo y asco blog from my blog. Great stuff there.

allright!

great, i'll send you the invite right away.

you can do whatever whenever - it's an open field, plough it. interesting fun for makers and viewers alike.

i agree with you (and love your theorist guise), but i didn't mean that language creates patterns, or that the brain does, when facing the text (which is true) - i meant that the translating software used creates patterns, that it does not work random. most precisely, it creates aberrations, i think, following whatever rules the program implements. i enforce those aberrations. it's not a good translator, but it's a good poem-producing toy. at least i get a laugh out of it.

lujo y asco is mostly a container, a photo album where i put things that i find interesting ( i was going to say "things i like", which is not always and much less necessariliy the case), and a link-machine. everithing there is other people's work (more or less creedited, quite famous mostly), of course, nothing creative on my part.

a revue of taste.

Thanks, Emily. I've accepted, happily. I see - re. the software. Sounds interesting. I don't have that; but can guess it causes a chuckle on occasion. That can only be good. Best wishes.
